Occupational Therapists in Greece, after obtaining their basic degree, their legally mandatory registration in the Panhellenic Association of Ergotherapists LEPL, the Announcement of Practicing the Profession of Occupational Therapist to the competent authority and the completion of the other required procedures, are autonomous professionals, who can independently provide Occupational Therapy Services, being responsible for all aspects of the provision of their services, accountable for the safety and effectiveness of these services and the process of their provision.

Occupational Therapists aiming to their continuing professional development and to ensure the use of best practice in the provision of their services seek supervision and consultation from other Occupational Therapists, from their peers of other specialties or/and participation in (multidisciplinary) supervisory groups. Occupational Therapy Assistants in Greece acquire a Certificate of Vocational Training (in Greek, Βεβαίωση Επαγγελματικής Κατάρτισης, Β.Ε.Κ.) by completing their studies at a School of Advanced Vocational Training (in Greek, Σχολή Ανώτερης Επαγγελματικής Κατάρτισης, Σ.Α.Ε.Κ.), formerly Institute of Vocational Training (in Greek, Ινστιτούτο Επαγγελματικής Κατάρτισης, Ι.Ε.Κ.) and are entitled to participate in the certification examinations of the Greek National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications & Vocational Guidance (in Greek, Ε.Ο.Π.Π.Ε.Π., E.O.P.P.E.P.) for obtaining a Diploma of Vocational Education and Training level 5 (in Greek, Δίπλωμα Επαγγελματικής Εκπαίδευσης και Κατάρτισης επιπέδου 5). As indicated in the Specialty Training Guide, Occupational Therapy Assistants are ancillary to the Occupational Therapist, assisting and supporting his/her work. An Occupational Therapy Assistant also works under the guidance of a supervising Occupational Therapist, whom he/she facilitates in the implementation of individual and/or group interventions. Occupational Therapy Assistants as part of their continuing professional development are encouraged to seek supervision and consultation from Occupational Therapists. Clinical supervision has been shown to:

• reduce stress and anxiety levels
• increase self-confidence
• reduce feelings of isolation
• help with personal and professional development
• support the development of clinical competence and knowledge
• improve leadership skills
• reduce the risk of burnout
